Katy Heiger taught at Edison High School for many years, including classes in AP Biology, Zoology, Biology, and GATE classes. In addition, Ms. Heiger was an adjunct professor at California State University, Fresno.
Ms. Heiger graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Masters in Organizational Systems (biology and Social Science) from the University of California, Berkeley and completed her California teaching credential at California State University, Fresno. She continued her in-service education by taking many courses including science, microbiology, molecular genetics, and taxonomy.
She served as Edison High School’s Science Department Chair for four years and was on the District’s Science Curriculum Advisory Committee. During summers, she taught at the California Mineral Education Conference. In addition to class study, she was active as a coach in the Science Olympiad and arranged for field trips like the one her AP Biology class took to Cayucos to study marine life.
Ms. Heiger was known for respecting and challenging students and for making herself available to help students with school classroom and college applications. She taught about college experiences and choices, as well as her curriculum and pushed her students to apply to the colleges of their dreams.
