Jay grew up in southern California and did not immediately attend college after high school. He started his professional career at Santa Anita Race Track, working his way into management before deciding to change careers to become a teacher. Jay was admitted to Cal Poly Pomona, where he majored in Physical Education and minored in Biology. Jay continued at Cal Poly Pomona to obtain his California Teaching Credential. Jay’s first job was as a Biology teacher and football coach at Hemet High School, where he taught for 14 years before becoming part of the staff that opened West Valley High School in Hemet and has been teaching Biology for the past 13 years.
