Ms. Catherine Borek teaches AP English Literature, Drama, and AVID at Dominguez High School in Compton, CA.  She began her career with Teach for America and has remained at her original-placement school since 1996. She earned her BA in English from Reed College and her MA in English Literature from California State University Los Angeles.  For Ms. Borek, earning this award “has been an opportunity to expand my team.  Excellent teaching is a team sport.  The better the team, the better the education.  With my Above and Beyond colleagues–the all-star team!–I am able to rethink, relearn, and reengage in pedagogical practices, all to the benefit of our students.”
