Mr. Luong is a physics teacher at Garden Grove High School in the Garden Grove Unified School District. He has his undergraduate degrees in Art and Physics from the University of California, San Diego, and his master’s degree from Loyola Marymount University. He has been teaching for nineteen years. When interviewed, Mr. Luong said that, “Reminders that students benefit from my work in the classroom leave me grateful. Knowing that my students have done well and that their experience has benefited their academic and career path provides me with further motivation to maintain all the work needed for my students have the best possible experience with the greatest possible outcome. I try to teach my students to be resilient when presented with obstacles, whether in academics or in life, as the drive to overcome adversity is an important skill for success. I’m glad my student nominator, Omar Lujano-Olazaba, has taken my message to heart. I am very proud of Omar and his academic accomplishments thus far. Lastly, I would like to express my appreciation for this award to the Above and Beyond organization and to my students for allowing me to have this amazing experience.”
